Speaking at the valedictory of the five-day Indian Science Congress (ISC) here on Saturday, Vidyasagar Rao said our ancient scholars like Bhaskara, Aryabatta and a host of others were taught in mother tongue to become world renowned for their genius while seeking teaching of science from school level in mother tongue.

Rao also said the academicians and researchers are bound to be accountable as the government is spending huge amount of public money on them and they need to explain the outcome of their activities.

He exhorted the universities to develop at least one department as a centre of excellence.

“When Mumbai IIT, Satyabama University and Pune Institution are able to design satellites why not you,” Rao asked the gathering of the students including those from SV University.

Minister of State for Science and Technology Y S Chowdary sought the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) which is the organiser of the annual ISC meet to evolve a mechanism to showcase the net result of the science conclave.

“The Prime Minister since two years has been seeking the ISCA to explain on what was achieved from the science meetings every year,’’ he averred.

ISCA general president D Narayana Rao thanked SVU, SVIMS, Mahila Viswavidya-layam and other institutions and also government agencies municipal corporation of Tirupati, TUDA, district administration, police and also TTD for the successful conduct of the 104th Science Congress.

SVU Vice-Chancellor said a whopping six lakh people including students from schools and colleges in the city and outside and also men and women visited the ISC during its five-day meet to have a look at the arrangements and the exhibitions conducted as part of the mega science meeting.

On the occasion `young scientist award’ to research scholar was also presented.
At the concluding session of the 104th Indian Sciences Congress, awards were presented to 12 young scientists for their outstanding performance in research in various areas of science by the chief guest Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

Minister of State for Science and Technology Y Sujana Choudary, ISC General President Prof Narayana Rao and A Damodaramm, Vice Chancellor, S V University , were present.
