Vijayawada: The Government Colleges Gazetted Teachers Association (GCGTA) demanded UGC-scale pay for junior lecturers (JLs), who were promoted as degree lecturers (DLs) in the year 2010 and 2013.

Dr D Uma Rani State secretary of GCGTA told The Hans India that about 400 JLs were promoted as DLs in the year 2010 and 2014. “For the past six year lecturers, who were promoted as DLs are still getting the State pay scale instead of UGC scale,” she said.

The erstwhile Andhra Pradesh has prepared a fitment formula by Adhar Sinha, commissioner of collegiate education for the conversion of State pay scale to Central pay scale for the lecturers promoted as DLs. After the bifurcation of State Telengana government issued GO Ms No.1 dated 8-1-2-15 as per fitment formula, while AP issue GO Ms No.2 based on a different fitment formula proposed by APSCHE. With this DLs of AP are getting less pay compared to TS. The issue is still pending at the finance department for the change in GO, the State secretary said.

The AP government has decided to promote 119 JLs and few librarians as DLs and most of them are not showing interest because of GO Ms No.2. There would not be any financial burden on the government, if Adhar Sinha’s fitment formula is implemented, as UGC bears the maximum load, Dr Uma Rani opined.
