Tirupati: A Chinese national was among the ten arrested by Renigunta Urban police on charges of red sanders smuggling.

Following a raid by the police, ten red sanders smugglers including the Chinese national identified as Zhang Jianlin of Xin Xiang City, Naipu State of Henan province, were arrested near Chaithanyapuram cross under Renigunta Urban PS limits on Saturday.

Police seized 24 good quality red sanders logs weighing762 kgs, 3 SUVs, a motor cycle, 13 mobile phones, 2 gold chains, 4 gold rings and Rs 34,000 cash from their possession.

Police said Zhang Jianlin, who came to India in 2012 was based in Bengaluru. He was involved in supply of feed imported from China. He came in contact with a red sander smuggler Wang from Xian You, Fujian, South China and was lured into smuggling. He was acting as middleman between Venkata Rao and Wang.

He is doing red sanders smuggling under the guise of prawn feed import business and is buying red sander logs from K Venkata Rao and packing them in boxes. Wang was giving Rs 50,000 per month as salary to Zhang, police added.
