Visakhapatnam: Minister for Civil Supplies Paritala Sunitha made surprise visits to fair price shops, including shop Nos 205 and 206 at Seethammadhara in the city, to check the distribution of ‘Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu’ and the quality of essentials, along with Joint Collector Srujana and district civil supplies department officials, here on Sunday.

Later, the Minister told reporters that the ration card holders could straight away refuse the essentials of ‘Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu’ if they found them of inferior quality and the same should be complained to the civil supplies department officials without accepting the essentials.

She informed that they were getting feedback across the State that the essentials being supplied as part of ‘Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu’, is of good quality. However, she said the dealers here were supplying black jaggery and asked the officials to supply white jaggery.

The Minister further stated that the card holders could take ‘Sankranti Kanukalu’ from anywhere in the State following the implementation of Ration Card Portability System.

She warned those contractors who supply inferior quality essentials would be put in the black list and appealed to the card holders to receive the Sankranti Kanukalu before January 11.
To a query, Sunitha disclosed that the State government has taken up the festival kanukalu programme as prestigious by spending Rs 350 crore and in the fourth round of Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme 8.59 lakh new ration cards are being distributed. Stating that the new card holders will also be given ‘Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu’ while the monthly ration from February on wards. DSOs Nirmalabhai and Anandakumar were also present.
