Let the law of land takes its own course”, commented AP Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao over the dismissal of Telangana petition by the Supreme Court over sharing of the Krishna waters.

Vijayawada: “Let the law of land takes its own course”, commented AP Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao over the dismissal of Telangana petition by the Supreme Court over sharing of the Krishna waters.

“It is the Telangana government which has filed the petition and we leave the issue to the wisdom of the judiciary”, he added.

The Telangana government contends that there is a need for revision of the water-sharing formula in the context of Telangana emerging as a new state from the united AP. In the wake of this, fresh water row kicked off by the TS.

APCC vice president N Tulasi Reddy said the problem raised by Telangana is a non-issue. It is the award of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal by taking into consideration 65 days of dependability of water instead of 75 days as envisaged by the Bachawat Tribunal, which is more detrimental to both the states.

He called for a united fight by both the AP and TS governments. He said the Brijesh Tribunal enabled drawl of 250tmcft in addition to their allocated share by Maharashtra and Karnataka states.

MVS Nagi Reddy, convener of the YSRC Kisan Cell, expressed anguish over the fate of the Krishna delta in view of exploitation of the river water by the upper riparian states, while welcoming the Supreme Court's ruling.

He recalled that the TS government has proposed to build six projects in the upstream of the Srisailam reservoir.

Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham president P Peddi Reddy emphasised the need for an amicable settlement of water disputes between the two states so as to save Rayalaseema and the coastal Andhra from turning into a desert.
