Tirupati: A minor fire accident took place in Tirumala Srivari laddu boondi kitchen (Potu) at 2.30 pm on Monday. The incident raised concerns about safety measures being implemented by the TTD administration.

At Tirumala, beside the laddu issuing counter, TTD makes boondi for laddu production at a special kitchen called external Potu. Every day up to three to four lakh laddu are made here by Potu workers.

On Monday at 2.30 pm, while boiling the oil for boondi making, unexpected fire flared up reaching up to the height of Potu exhaust fan.

TTD fire fighting staff and Potu workers jointly sprayed water and used carbon dioxide gas to prevent further spreading of flames successfully, without single casualty. After that, TTD EO Sambasivarao along with other officials visited the spot and enquired about the incident.

Official sources said that existing laddu boondi making Potu is not suitable on safety aspects. There is a need to build large kitchen with high-end fire safety facilities and air,

smoke exhaust methods at some other place, though when flames flare up, the staff is fully alert and manages to stop the flames within minutes.
