Ongole: The intervention activities by the Prakasam district police are becoming successful, announced Superintendent of Police Dr CM Trivikrama Varma. He said that the geo-tagging of accident spots and regular awareness camps on road safety by the department helped in the reducing the number of accidents in the district.

The National Highways Authority of India and Swarnapuri Expressway Limited are organising the 28th Road Safety Week from January 9 to 15 and conducted a special programme for creating awareness at the Tangutoor toll Plaza for the drivers and toll plaza staff on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Trivikrama Varma said, “The Prakasam district police are voluntarily associating with the National Highways Authority of India in Road Safety Week.

We are organising intervention activities with drivers, public beside national highway to create awareness on the road safety and they are proving to be helpful in reducing the number of accidents.

We are geo-tagging the places of accidents and working to avoid no accident at the same spot in future.

If three accidents occurred at the same spot, we are naming it as a black spot and a senior police official will visit the place and erect STOP sign boards, speed breakers and other intervention activities.”

He said that in Prakasam district black spots were put at Ulavapadu, Maddipadu, Medarametla and other places.

“We request the drivers on the national highway not to stop their vehicles on the road as there is an increased possibility of rear end collisions due to over speeding.

We have proposed the government to earmark six acres land for the parking beside national highway at Maddipadu for the safety of the public,” he said.
