Vizianagaram: An engineer working in panchayats raj department was trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths while accepting a bribe from a contractor for release of bill to the completed works in Salur mandal of Vizianagaram district on Wednesday.

Vizianagaram: An engineer working in panchayats raj department was trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths while accepting a bribe from a contractor for release of bill to the completed works in Salur mandal of Vizianagaram district on Wednesday.

Lakshmipathi, seputy superintendent of ACB, said that K Ramgopal Reddy, an engineer of Salur mandal, demanded the contractor Suryanarayana pay Rs 20,000 to pass the bill for the cement road works at Purohituni Valasa village.

The contractor has completed the road works worth Rs 5 lakh in that village and got the bill amount for Rs 3 lakh works. He approached the engineer for the pending bill.

Ramgopal Reddy demanded Rs 20,000 to clear the bill. Later, the contractor approached the ACB staff.

They laid a trap and caught him while he was accepting the amount at the Collectorate here. Later, a case was registered and investigation is on. Inspectors Ramesh, Lakshmoji participated in the operation.
