Amaravati: Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu termed the forthcoming budget as sustainable development budget.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, after interacting with various associations as part of pre-budget meeting he said that the government could continue the welfare schemes despite financial crisis.

“Agriculture sector is hopeful. Ayacut has been increased up to two lakh acres. In the kharif season, 72 lakh tonnes of paddy was produced against the target of 69 lakh tonnes,” he informed.

Disclosing the details of paddy production, Yanamala said that the State produced 5,440 kg per each hectare against the target of 3,000 kg, despite less rain fall.

“Happiness index in the State is in good shape. AP is above Telangana government in index as well as growth rate,” he claimed.

Reacting a question, the Finance Minister said that revenue deficit was 12,000 crore in the State. “Even though there are differences with the Centre regarding the amount to be released to the State, we are confident that we will get Rs 7,000 crore by March 31.

We will get more income from direct taxes,” he averred. Yanamala asserted that the government was working to eliminate poverty.

“The social welfare department has spent more than 50 per cent of its allocated funds. Collectors are given full power to spend the funds as per the allocations,” he explained.
