42.6 L workers in banking fold: Dattatreya
Vijayawada: Union Minister of State for labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said on Thursday that Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken huge efforts for opening bank accounts and have succeeded in bringing over 42.60 lakh workers, so far into the banking fold for ensuring cashless transaction of wages since demonetisation of high value notes was announced. Vijayawada: Union Minister of State for labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said on Thursday that Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken huge efforts for opening bank accounts and have succeeded in bringing over 42.60 lakh workers, so far into the banking fold for ensuring cashless transaction of wages since demonetisation of high value notes was announced.
The Union Minister said 26.51 crore Jan Dhan Accounts have already been opened and the workers left over are being covered now. He attended an awareness meeting conducted by ESI at a hotel on Thursday and addressed the staff and workers of various sectors.
He explained the measures taken by Union government after demonetisation was announced by PM Narendra Modi on November 8.
The Minister said the amendments were in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a cashless-transaction economy. The demonetisation had the people’s support and hailed the Prime Minister as a man with a mission to change India.
Describing support to demonetisation as a people’s movement, he said after the Independence Movement, the present movement was the biggest one in the Indian history. However, the opposition parties were misleading people by twisting facts and trying to create unrest but the people have failed their efforts.
Referring to economic growth, the BJP leader said that “Inclusive growth” is our mantra, where everyone, be it youth, women, rural poor, or minority backward class, to be made a stakeholder and a partner in this walk towards sustainable and inclusive development.
The Central Minister also stated in order to ensure cashless transactions particularly those in the informal sector. Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken huge efforts for opening bank accounts and have succeeded in bringing over 42.60 lakh workers, so far into the banking fold for ensuring cashless transaction of wages.
The Minister further said that Union government initiated several steps for the development of the workers. Payment of Wages (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016 enables the employers to pay wages to employees through cheques or by crediting it to their bank accounts electronically.
