Visakhapatnam: The police arrested a software professional here on Thursday for threatening his own director of the company with blowing up the premises of the company, if his demand for Rs. 1 crore was not met.

DCP (Law & Order) Navin Gulati said that the arrested person N Sai Vamsi alias Raju sent an email to the company intimidating that he had placed bombs in the premises of the company and would blow them up if the ransom was not paid.

Disclosing the details, the DCP said that Palem police, on January 1, was informed over phone by Subrahmanya Varma, Director of Clove Technologies Private Limited that he had received a mail from an unknown person that a bomb had been planted inside the company premises and the email sender demanded a payment of Rs one crore to defuse it.

Subsequent to the complaint raised by the director of the company, the police despatched a bomb squad to detect the bomb. Following the email turning into a hoax one, the police began an investigation to nab the accused.

The DCP said that Sai Vamsi, the accused, who was addicted with bad habits incurred debts to the tune of over Rs.5 lakh. In his bid to come out of the debt trap, Sai Vamsi hatched a plan and sent mail to the director.

The accused sent mail from an Internet centre located at Maddilapalem area in the city. After tracing the log-in details of the accused by collecting the IP address and mobile number from the Internet Cafe, the police rounded up the accused under IPC Section 387 and Section 66 of IT Act. He will be produced in the court on Friday.
