Geyanand’s campaign gains momentum

Anantapur: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) M Geyanand is reaching out to his electorate as part of campaigning for graduate and teachers MLC elections.

He is making fervent appeal to electorate not to fall to prey of shallow promises made by political parties. He urged voters to separate these elections from party politics and preserve its sanctity.

He is contesting for the MLC graduates constituency for the second time and vowed to continue fight for the causes that need to be brought to its logical conclusion.

Talking to ‘The Hans India’ in the midst of his busy campaigning schedule, the MLC says that revision of electoral rolls are yet to be carried out and unless they are carried out, the whole exercise of additions and deletions would be a futile exercise.

In a touching appeal to the same voters, who gave him a corruption-free mandate, Geyanand says that he had not ditched the voters, who trusted him to the core.

With a sense of pride, MLC Geyanand said that he lived up to his promise of living a simple life in the Gandhian path as well as fighting for the cause of Rayalaseema.

He said that he did not betray his voters but pursued politics of honesty, integrity and being the lone voice of Rayalaseema in the council.

The MLC said that he dispelled the notion that politicians once elected would show their faces only at the time of elections through his political style of functioning.

Contrary to such opinions, he had toured Kurnool district 150 times and met his voters and also visited his voters in Kadapa 160 times.

During his six-year term, he had spent 1200 days in the midst of people, and except for 3 days in the entire 6 years, he was present in the legislative council and actively participated in debates and raised issues of people as no one had ever done, being part of the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF).

Geyanand said that he had never considered the position of MLC as a post to enjoy but used it to serve the people who voted him with high hopes.

The people's MLC says that he successfully made Rayalaseema development as an issue that none can ignore. He had even prepared a 21-point charter of demands for which he fought for all the six years.

The issues include early completion of Handri-Neeva project believed to be the lifeline for Rayalaseema, coming up with an action plan to prevent suicides of farmers and address farmers problems, setting up of mineral based industries in Rayalaseema by taking advantage of the mineral resources, raising his voice against centralisation of development around Amaravati, strengthening of universities with funds allocation and implementation of a special package worth Rs 50,000 crore for Rayalaseema development etc.

Dr Geyanand, a medical practitioner by profession is a known people's activist fighting for the cause of the voiceless people and in the process sacrificed lucrative medical practice, contrary to commercial treatment practices in vogue.

Geyanad reportedly won his MLC election with just Rs 15 lakh campaigning cost. Pitied against rebels who were said to be financial monarchs, he won fighting against all odds.

He said that his pet subjects were education and health. His demand of allocating Rs 100 crore for every university development is yet to be conceded.

He said that he would not rest until the demand for establishment of steel plant in Kadapa district and Groundnut Research Centre in Anantapur is fulfilled.

Geyanand has built up a strong network of people's organisations, who are favoring his re-election to the MLC graduates constituency of Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa.

The TDP announced its nominee as K J Reddy and YSRCP as Gopal Reddy.

Geyanand says that he is not interested in winning at any cost but will appeal to wisdom, good sense and idealism to prevail over all other considerations and callings.

The elections to MLC graduates constituency is expected to be held in February or March 2017.
