Road mishaps on the rise in Visakhapatnam dist

Visakhapatnam: Collector Praveen Kumar disclosed that the district has been registering over 2,500 road mishaps every year of which 500 are fatal accidents.

After flagging off the Road Safety Campaign Van as a part of Road Safety Week here on Thursday, Praveen Kumar said that various decisions have been taken in the recent meeting of District Road Safety Authority.

He said the Road Safety Week which began on January 16 was aimed at reducing the road mishaps to the minimum by educating the public. Awareness programmes are being conducted in the district involving police, transport road transport corporation, district medical and health department and voluntary organisations, he added.

Later, the Collector and deputy commissioner of transport S Venkateswara Rao distributed pamphlets on road safety. Regional transport officer Khan and others were present.
