Eluru: District Collector K Bhaskar asked transport department officials to create awareness among students on controlling road accidents in the district.

He declared open the 28th National Road Safety Week here at the Collectorate on Thursday and released pamphlets on road safety.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the National Road Safety week would be conducted up to January 25th in the district. Also, awareness programmes, highlighting road safety would be conducted in a big way, he informed.

Revealing the road safety week programme details, the District Collector said that a three-day awareness programme is going to be conducted on January 20, January 21 and January 22. On the first day, i.e. Jan 20, lorry owners association, heavy vehicle drivers, and driving schools students will be involved in creating awareness on road safety.

On January 21, private taxi owners and drivers will come together for this purpose and on the last day i.e. January 22, private educational institutions will be involved in the campaign, he added. Transport officers Jayapal Reddy, M Vijayaraju, Srinivasa Nayak, Naga Murali, Ravindranath, U Kalajyothi, Chaitanya Suma and others too participated in the event.
