Ongole: The Veligonda project is like a lifeline to provide drinking and irrigation water to western areas in Prakasam district, said Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Committee on Government Assurances. He and his team members Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, P J Chandrasekhar Rao visited Kothapatnam Beach and Veliginda Project in Prakasam district on Thursday to inspect the development works as promised by the government.

The committee visited the Kothapatnam Beach in the morning and expressed satisfaction over the works completed by the tourism department. District tourism in-harge officer N Nagabhushanam explained the committee that various facilities, including the construction of cottages, renovation of guest house, were completed with Rs 1.50 crore and another Rs 1 crore works are in process.

Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu said, “The Kothapatnam Beach would be developed as a major tourist attraction in the district and we are expecting to increase the number of visitors by providing attractions here. The village also provided with amenities to host the tourists. As per the provision given in the AP Reorganisation Act, the land required from the forest department will be transferred to the concerned. The committee will convene a meeting with the director of tourism department and see that more funds will be obtained from State and Central governments.”

At Veligonda, the committee members, along with Karanam Balaram, MLA P David Raju, irrigation department CE Veerraju and other officials, visited the tunnel sites and inspected the works. Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu said, “Veligonda is the major project that will induce life to the parts of Prakasam and Kadapa districts. This will be the life line in fighting fluoride affected diseases in the region and provide drinking and irrigation water. Though the project was planned by NT RamaRao, the foundation was laid by Chandrababu Naidu and would be completed by him only.
