Atmakur (Kurnool): District officials of the Fisheries department has released about 55 lakh fishlings in Krishna back waters at Sangameswaram and Kapileswaram in the presence of Nandikotkur MLA S Aijaiah on Friday. The Fisheries department through RKVR scheme has been releasing the fishes in water for the livelihood to traditional fishermen, who are depending on it, said the Deputy Director Srihari.

He also said that they are planning to farm Rohu fish in Kurnool and will release it in Krishna waters soon. Fishermen complained of middle men, who were using banned Alivi Nets, which affect their livelihood. The MLA assured them of raising the issue in the legislative assembly. He said that the government is planning to establish a cold storage at Kapileshwaram at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
