Visakhapatnam: Former Tribal Welfare Minister P Balaraju demanded the arrest and a case under SC/ST Atrocities Act against the Mandal Revenue Officer, the RDO and the police personnel who were involved in the forcible cutting of the paddy cultivated by the tribals in Chinna Jaggampeta in Nathavaram mandal in Visakhapatnam district.
Baalaraju said the act that they committed attracted the Atrocities Act and the District Collector should take a stringent action.”
The 50 tribal families of Chinna Jaggampeta camping outside the MRO officer in Nathavaram launched a hunger strike on Thursday demanding action against the officials.
PS Ajay Kumar, State coconvener of Raithu Swarajya Vedika, pointed out that the Joint Collector should immediately begin inquiry, as the tribal farmers were left to starve.
The local women collected about 130 kg of rice and distributed to the farmers but the farmers are demanding their produce back.
