Visakhapatnam: The 137th Central Executive Committee meeting of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (Andhra Pradesh) (BMS) was held here on Friday. The panel demanded that the Central government plan meticulously on the needs of the labour and other social sector groups by allocating sufficient budgetary support.

BMS organising secretary K Bhavani Shankarudu quoting the resolutions passed in the meeting disclosed that ordinary citizens in the country in spite of hardships welcomed the demonitisation drive as a historical step and the workers in the country, too, have wholeheartedly supported. At the same time, the meeting took a serious note of adverse effects like defective implementation, frequent cash shortage, market slowdown, retrenchments, return of migrant labourers to home towns and the setback for manufacturing sector.

Bhavani Shankarudu said that the Central government should provide colossal fund for the development of labour and other social sector groups considering their total security, wage and welfare. Thrust has to be given to provide minimum wages, social security, employment, health and education especially to the rural India, he added.

Among other things, the Central Executive Committee has passed resolutions demanding the Central government give thrust and channelise the revenue gained by the so called demonetisation to the short term and long term needs of labour and social sector.

Other demands include to raise the income tax limit to Rs 5 lakh, abolish IT system in future, take urgent steps to recover from retrenchments, market slowdown, setback in manufacturing units, take steps other than demonetisation to radically improve the pathetic situation of rural economy, to push MGNREGS, other social security and poverty alleviation schemes to mitigate the ill effects of demonetisation and to involve the BMS and other social sector organisations as representatives of the stake holders in the recovery and planning processes by convening meetings.
