‘MOOC plays a vital role in higher edn’

Viayawada: P Diwakar, Consultant CDFD, department of Biotechnology, Government of India, said Open Educational Resources (OER) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) play a key role in higher education. He addressed a national seminar on OER at the Department of Library and Information Sciences of Maris Stella College here on Friday.
The seminar will create awareness among the teaching community, library professionals and scholars about OER and MOOC. He said that MOOC will provide a platform for the students to gain additional knowledge apart from their regular studies.
They could do a number of free online courses in different subjects within a short time and can get certificates from reputed institutions like IITs and foreign universities.
About 70 members participated in the workshop. Professors, library professionals, teaching faculty and scholars from various places of the country were present.
