Tirupati: The first ever meeting of the newly-formed Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL) which was formed last November to execute the smart city project will be held in Chittoor on Saturday.

The TSCCL was formed and registered under Company’s Act which was made compulsory for the execution of the smart city project a novel concept introduced under Smart Cities Mission by the Centre for development of 109 cities across the country including Tirupati. Following the TSCCL formation and registration as a company, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner and MD-cum-CEO of TSCCL V Vinay Chand said Board of Directors (BoD) have been constituted with four members including District Collector who will head TSCCL as its Chairman, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Joint Executive Officer, Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA), MCT Commissioner and Tirupati Urban SP as its initial members.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, Vinay Chand said as per the TSCCL company rules municipal commissioner will act as Managing Director-cum-Chief Executive Officer till a full-fledged MD and CEO was appointed. At present, Vinay Chand is holding two positions as MCT Commissioner and TUDA Vice-Chairman. Provision was made for inclusion of AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCCL) CMD, Tirupati Sub-Collector and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, he said adding that the MD-cum-CEO for TSCCL will also be appointed in due course, till then MCT Commissioner will hold the position to look after the day-to-day activities of TSCCL.

Informing that the Centre had already released its first installment of Rs 92 crore following which State government also released its share of Rs 92 crore under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme of smart city project, he said that smart city is no more a mere ecstasy or extravaganza but a reality with Rs 194 crore going to be credited in the corporation account in three days. The remaining amount in the total Rs 1,200 crore, the MCT will get both from Centre and State and will be released stage by stage accelerating the smart city project here, he added.

He said that the first meeting will take crucial decision including adopting ‘Article of Association’ and ‘Certificate of Incorporation’ and other vital aspects in the BoD meeting to be held tomorrow in Chittoor under the chair of District Collector as BoD Chairman. In due course, the BoD will take up the appointment for key position including Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) etc. to make TSCCL a full-fledged professional body to work with a time frame for executing Rs 2,000 crore mega smart city project.
