Nellore: Superintendent of Police (SP) of Government Railway Police M Subba Rao said that security teams on moving trains can utilise shoot-at-sight orders against chain snatchers and people, who loot properties of passengers at gun point and other notorious offenders. The SP visited Nellore Railway Police Station here on Friday and inspected the records of the station. Speaking to the media, the SP said that about Rs 85 lakh worth property was lost this year as part of various offences.

He said officials have to speed up the investigation to recover the property and also directed the railway police to resolve pending cases in their jurisdiction. Normally, gangsters from northern parts of State enter trains and commit offences by pulling alarm chain and the teams can shoot for safeguarding lives of passengers. The SP said they had obtained permission from the government for utilising the powers. It may be recalled that railway police opened firing in air three times last year to avoid robberies on running trains. Officials of railway police station were also present.
