In the tragic train derailment of the Hirakhand Express that took place in Andhra Pradesh\'s Vizianagaram district on Saturday, at least 34 people lost their lives and 50 others suffered major injuries. 

In the tragic train derailment of the Hirakhand Express that took place in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district on Saturday, at least 34 people lost their lives and 50 others suffered major injuries.

The incident took place at 11.30 PM near Kuneru station which is 24 km from Rayagada in Odisha. Due to the accident, two Air Conditioned coaches, three reservation coaches and four general coaches were derailed.

The latest reports inform that 20 passengers who suffered injuries were shifted to Parvathipuram area hospital, others to KGH in Visakha. However, the death toll may climb due to the intensity of the accident.

Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia has been announced by the Indian Railways to each of the next of the kin of the deceased while the injured would be recieving Rs 50,000 each.
