Eluru: Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) Andhra Pradesh Unit Joint Secretary Namburi Srimannarayana demanded the Centre to declare Special Category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh immediately.

Addressing a seminar on the ‘Oppression by the State government’ organised by West Godavari’s CLC unit here at Sahitya Mandali building on Sunday, the CLC leader alleged that the governments are using oppressive measures employing police force to crush the agitations taken up by people besides illegally booking cases against leaders and arresting them. He alleged that acts of repressions were on the rise ever since the BJP-led NDA government came to power at the Centre. Condemning the actions of the governments pose a threat to the democracy, he termed it as “It is more dangerous than fascism.”

The AOB(Andhra-Orissa Border) encounter that took place last year October vindicates the government’s actions against the people’s agitations. He demanded judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court on the AOB encounter. Further, he was vociferous on withdrawing illegal cases against the people in Tundurru and Polavaram areas.
