Nellore: Telugu Desam MLC Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy stressed the need to allocate more funds to encourage sports. He attended the valedictory function of national level sports event ‘Khelo India’ at AC Subba Reddy stadium on Sunday and said the government has been committed to develop infrastructure in the stadia even though facing severe fund crunch.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandramohan Reddy said that the sports village was being developed at Mogallapalem village in around 150 acres for National Games in 2019. “Basic amenities have been developed at the sports village with Rs.6 crore,” he said.

He said that 664 participants from 17 States have participated in the Khelo India event and appreciated efforts of the district administration for conducting the event successfully.

Collector R Mutyala Raju said that around 100 coaches and managers have extended their cooperation to various events. Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh chairman P R Mohan said the government allocated Rs 250 crore to set up mini stadiums in the State. He also said that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was putting sincere efforts to develop sports infrastructure in the State.

SAI Representative Kanwaljit Singh said that Central and State governments were taking measures to encourage sports in rural areas. Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy presided over the programme.
