Vijayawada: Anything related to difficulty in breathing is a pulmonology problem and should be attended before it turns chronic, said Dr Srinivas Rao, MD DM (Interventional Pulmonologist) Kamineni Hospitals, Vijayawada.

Speaking at a pulmonology awareness programme organised by the Walkers Association at IGS on Sunday, he said that most of the people suffer from breathing related problems like asthma in winter season. It should be attended by a doctor at an early stage before it turns chronic.

He said, "The tubes that carry air into the lungs get narrow and the air can't move freely and it cause serious wheezing and breathlessness which is called asthma. There is no cure, but most people can control the symptoms. Childhood infections and under-developed immune systems are a greater risk of asthma, low levels of vitamin D can affect you at any age.

People who have allergies or a parent or close family member with asthma are more likely to have the condition. More boys have asthma than girls, but it's more common in women than in men."
