Kadapa: Rythu Sangam State vice-president A Narayana Reddy has flayed the visit of Central team to the district on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Rythu Sangam leader demanded that the team members should ensure compensation is paid to farmers at the earliest. He asked them not to wash off their hands just by submitting a report to the Central government. Narayana Reddy said that it became routine for successive Central governments to send teams for drought assessment.

But, there is no follow up action, he added. The Rythu Sangam leader stated that the groundnut crop had suffered losses in 54,000 hectares in the district with deficit rainfall of 40 per cent. He further said that paddy crop was lost in thousands of hectares in Rabi season with 33 per cent less rainfall.

He slammed the State and Central governments for failing to pay compensation and input subsidy to farmers in time. “Farmers are committing suicides as the State and Central governments are delaying payment of compensation and input subsidy,” he added. Narayana Reddy said that water shortage to farm lands will not be resolved just by releasing water to Pulivendula constituency as farmers in other Assembly segments across the district are facing water crisis.
