Vijayawada: Due to lack of sufficient doctors, the patients as well as medical staff at Shaik Raja Sahab Prasuti (SRSP) Hospital are facing severe problems.

The SRSP hospital run by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation(VMC) has not appointed permanent gynaecologist and anesthesia specialist in the hospital and also cancelled the ambulance service in the hospital.

Vijayawada one town people are preferring to take treatment at the SRSP hospital but the VMC failed to appoint specialist doctors in the hospital to provide medicare to the poor people.

SRSP Hospital general physician Dr Nazir said that nearly 60 to 80 poor patients were coming to the hospital every day for medicare at the hospital but the VMC failed to supply sufficient medicines to the hospital.

“SRSP hospital operation theatre is not being utilised due to lack of a permanent gynaecologist,” he added.

He pointed out that the hospital requires a gynaecologist, general physician and anaesthesia specialist for providing round the clock health service to the patients..

Gynaecologist Dr Susilamma whose services have been hired on a contract basis, said that the VMC officials have not being paying salaries to her for the last three months.

“VMC officials must appoint additional staff members for reducing burden on existing staff members and offer best treatment to the poor people at the hospital,” she added.

SRSP hospital health supervisor Krupa Varam said that she was facing so many problems in the hospital due to lack of sufficient staff to treat patents and the VMC officials turned the maternity hospital into a general hospital.

VMC 37th division CPM corporator Gade Adi Lakshmi mentioned that TDP MLC Budda Venkanna had adopted the SRSP hospital for improving the health service to the public but he failed to provide infrastructure at the hospital.

She said that she had submitted representations to the VMC Commissioner to provide better infrastructure and appoint permanent doctors at the hospital.

She pointed out that the VMC has not allotted adequate funds to the medical and health department in the budget.
