Husband, 3 others held for woman’s murder

Atmakur (Kurnool): Local police on Tuesday arrested four persons, including the victim’s husband, for their alleged role in the murder of Hemalata of Madhavaram in Velugodu mandal on January 19 by beheading her using an axe.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Supraja said Hemalatha was axed to death by her husband Era Venkataramana as he suspected her fidelity and his greed to get additional dowry by opting for second marriage.

The accused are Venkataramana, his brother Thimmayya and parents Ramachandrudu and Venkatalakshmi.

She said Venkataramana used to harass her, doubting her fidelity and demanding more dowry, with a motive to get married to another woman.

The DSP, who herself investigated the case, leading to its logical conclusion within five days, said although initially there was so suspicion on Venkataramana, the complaint lodged by Hemalatha’s brother led to the identity of the killers.

She explained that the four accused conspired to commit the murder. The DSP stated that Atmakur CI Krishnayya and SI Praveen Kumar Reddy have
arrested the accused.
