Chittoor: Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa, who handles Home and Disaster Management portfolios, said that the Police department would replicate Community Police Officers (CPOs) project, initiated by Chittoor SP G Srinivas, in other districts.

He stated that CPOs project is a wonderful experiment to make people function as police personnel. The Home Minister participated in a function organised at Police Parade Grounds here on Tuesday, on the occasion of CPOs Project completing one year.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinna Rajappa said that police job became more complex in the present circumstances. He exhorted people to extend their moral and physical support to police personnel so that they can function effectively.

The Home Minister made an appeal to opposition parties not to damage the credibility of the State to gain political mileage. He stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed for the welfare of the police as more funds were allocated to the Police department in the budget.

“There is no shortage of funds for welfare schemes meant for the policemen,” he added. District SP G Srinivas said that 5,416 were declared as CPOs in the district.

IGP Harish Kumar and Anantapur DIG Prabhakara Rao also spoke on the occasion. Later, the Home Minister has distributed identity cards to the CPOs on completion of one year.

ZP Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash, Chittoor MP Dr N Sivaprasad, Chittoor MP D A Satyaprabha, in-charge Mayor Subramanyam, Additional SP Abhishek Mohanty and others were present.
