Eluru: District Collector K Bhaskaron Wednesday directed the officials to implement the drip irrigation in 25,000 hectares by March this year in West Godavari district.

He reviewed the Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Programme process from
Collectorate here.

He spoke with the APIMIP Project Director Mohan Rao on phone who was at the National Voters Day meeting and directed him to prepare on the drip irrigation.

The Collector pointed out that the drip irrigation has been implemented in the drought-hit Anantapur district and is nearing the targets completion.

However, he regretted only 7,000 hectares only came under drip irrigation when more facilities are available in West Godavari, The Collector warned of sting action against the officials if they fail to take up drip irrigation works in the remaining 18,000 hectares.

He questioned the officials why were they not reaching the targets on time.

He stated that horticulture gardens are heavy in upland area and there is possibility for higher yielding with least water supply through drip irrigation.

He kept the officials on spot and asked that when the farmers are showing interest for drip irrigation, why they are neglecting the scheme.

He directed the officials to take up the applications at the farmers’ houses and erect the drip irrigation equipment in the farm fields on war-footing.
