New Delhi: Congress Rajya Sabha Member K V P Ramachandra Rao in an open letter on Wednesday, urged the Telugu people to embark on the mission of tweeting the demand for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh which remained unfulfilled after a promise was made on the floor of the upper house of Parliament.

Making an appeal to the Telugus around the world on behalf of his party, Rao said one should use the occasion of the 68th Republic Day as the launch pad to take to Twitter and turn the 140-character limit into a virtual weapon to force the Centre to realise the legitimate and legal demands of the State.

Asking the Telugus to use the proper hashtags like #WeDemandSpecialCategoryStatusForAP and a few others seeking completion of Polavaram Project, special package for backward regions, funds for capital city, distribution of assets as per the AP Reorganisation Act etc, Dr Rao gave the twitter handle addresses of @narendramodi, @PMO Union, @arunjaitley, @MVenkaiahNaidu and @ncbn for forwarding their demands.

He said it was very unfortunate and totally distressing that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ignored his request to take up the leadership backed by the involvement of all political parties, media, intellectuals, students, youth and the film industry for a battle with the Centre for the fulfillment of promises.

He said the people must treat this as a sustained campaign to exert pressure on the Centre for a long time if necessary for a better future.

"Spend just two minutes a day to send one protest tweet daily till our objectives are fulfilled,” he added terming it a sacred mission.
