Visakhapatnam: To secure top position in the ongoing Swachh Sarvekshan-2017, the municipal officials and employees should work with commitment for which the public, too, have to extend cooperation since the present competition is among 500 cities across the country against 75 cities of the previous survey, said Municipal Commissioner M Harinarayanan in his Republic Day speech here on Thursday.

Soon after unfurling the National Flag, Harinarayanan disclosed that the city has bagged the first place in the Swachh survey conducted by the municipal administration and urban development wing. He said that the corporation has secured awards in power conservation and best monitoring in the usage of LED lights which saved 40 per cent power.

He said that Swachh Bharat, Swachhandhra Corporation and Swachh Visakha programmes are being actively taken up in the corporation limits adding that the Central government has presented a certificate declaring Vizag as ODF and garbage-free city.
