Eluru: Police arrested district leaders of YSRCP, Left party and Jana Sena at various places as a precautionary measure when they took up candle-light rallies and marching towards Visakhapatnam to extend their support to the candle light rally at Visakhapatnam.

In Eluru, the YSRCP workers took out candle rally from former MLA Alla KaliKrishna Srinivas (Nani)’s house to Fire Station centre on Thursday night. When the rally started, police intervened and arrested the former MLA and YSRCP district president Alla Nani, former MLA Kottu Satyanarayana, MLC Meka Seshubabu, K Sridhar, Talari Venkatrao, Muppala Nagababu, K Ramachandra Rao and others and shifted them to the III Town police station.

With this, irate YSRCP workers demanded police to release their leaders and took out the protest rally in the city and reached the III Town police station and raised slogans against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Earlier, on the call given by YSRCP president Y S Jagan, hundreds of workers rallied to Eluru from various parts of the district.

Meanwhile, the CPM, Jana Sena and CPIML(New Democracy) leaders workers rallied to the Fire Station centre demanding SCS to the State and extending solidarity to the candle light rally at Visakhapatnam. However, police arrested CPM district secretary B Balaram, Secretariat member GVL Narasimha Rao, B Somaiah, Janasena Party leader Sagar Babu, CPI-ML(new Democracy) leader Kakarla Apparao and shifted all of them to II Town police station.

Speaking to the media, YSRC leader Alla Nani, alleged that the government is using force to suppress the peoples’ agitation for a special category status, “Naidu failed to get special status and was content with special package which is no match to the former” he added . Similarly, CPM district secretary B Balaram said that government is using oppressive methods.
