Tirupati: The 68th Republic Day celebrations were organised on Thursday at government offices, schools, colleges, social organisations and private institutions with pomp and enthusiasm. At the Police Parade Grounds, a march fast by police was held to mark the R-Day celebrations in which DIG Prabhakar Rao hoisted the national flag and took the guard of honour.

At the R-Day fete in APSPDCL main office, Director Pulla Reddy called on the employees to strive to enhance quality of service to consumers. He lauded the employees for their commendable service in restoring power supply during Vardah cyclone and also ensuring uninterrupted 24-hour power supply during Indian Science Congress which was held here recently.

As part of power saving, 5,032 solar pump sets were provided to farmers and efforts are to provide star- rated fans and tube lights to domestic consumers. he said. R-Day celebrations were also conducted by Tirupati Chamber of Commerce, Gandhi Bhavan Trust and Saisudha Hospital. In Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visva Vidyalayam, Vice-Chancellor V Durga Bhavani hoisted the tri-colour and addressed the students.
