WG Collector assures sufficient water
West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar on Thursday said that the State government is committed to supply irrigation and drinking water
Eluru: West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar on Thursday said that the State government is committed to supply irrigation and drinking water by completing the multi-purpose Polavaram Irrigation project by next year.
The Collector hoisted the national flag at Police parade grounds here on 68th Indian Republic Day. After hoisting the flag, he took the guard of honor from Armed forces.
Later addressing the gatherings, the Collector said that as part of the commitment of the government, already the concrete works of Spillway of Polavaram project inaugurated by Chief Minister last month.
While thanking the farmers and tribals who gave away the lands for the project, the Collector stated that the Polavaram project will change the future of the State through its benefits.
He also said that the district achieved two-digit growth in agriculture and allied sectors. The administration had encouraged the mechanisation in the cultivation and distributed Rs.70 crore worth machinery to 31,000 farmers.
The banks and cooperative societies have sanctioned Rs.5, 500 crores towards crop loans to the farmers in the district.
About Rs.900 Crores have been waived off the loans of 5 lakh farmers under loan waiver scheme.
The Collector said that the West Godavari district will be declared as an open-defecation free district by end of March as part of Swacha Bharath programme and added that the district will also be declared as the smoke-free district by March this year by sanctioning hundred percent gas connections to the households.
He said that the district administration has taken the demonetisation of big currency as a big challenge and introduced the cashless transactions in the district. The district stood as a model for the State in cashless transactions, he added.
The Collector announced that the fibre grid works which will provide telephone, cable and internet activities to the households are almost nearing its completion.
After the completion of fibre grid works, the people will get the connection for Rs.149 per month.
