Ongole: Prakasam District Collector Sujatha Sharma established a Drought Monitoring Cell at the Collectorate here and appointed district revenue officer Dr N Prabhakara Reddy as the nodal officer of the Control Room.

The Commissioner, Disaster Management, Government of Andhra Pradesh, urged the Collector to establish a Drought Monitoring Cell for monitoring drinking water, supply of fodder, employment to wage seekers, prices of essential commodities and to ensure timely action to tackle the situation in the district.

The Collector appointed DRO N Prabhakara Reddy as the nodal officer for the Monitoring Cell and made RVNC Prasad, superintendent of D section in the Collectorate as in-charge of the cell.

She also appointed P Subrahmanyam as in-charge of drinking water issues, Iliaz Ahmed Khan as in-charge of supply of fodder issues, V Prathasaradhi as in-charge of employment to wage seekers and B James as in-charge of essential commodities.

Revenue divisional officers of Ongole, Kandukur and Markapuram are made divisional-level nodal officers for the cell.

The Drought Monitoring Cell will start functioning from January 30. Public can contact the toll free number 1077 or 08592 281400 to bring the issues to the notice of Drought Cell for immediate action.
