Ongole: The Prakasam district police unearthed a dump in the Nallamala forest belonging to Maoists near Palutla village in Yerragondapalem mandal.

The police said in a statement that a team of special party police led by the reserve police sub-inspector YSRK Prasad is conducting regular combing in Nallamala forest from January 21.

At Tekulapenta hamlet near Palutla village, they observed a few electrical wires popped out from earth. After digging at the place, they found 79 rounds of SLR, 31 rounds of .303 rifle, 17 rounds of 0.500 rifle, three barrels of double barrel guns, two barrels of single barrel guns, two double trigger tapanchas and one charger in the dump.

The special party police displayed the items before Superintendent of Police Dr CM Trivikram Varma here on Friday.

The police suspect that the Maoists made the dump around 2003, after inspection of the contents. The SP appreciated the team for unearthing the dump.
