Atmakur (Kurnool): The two-day annual Ekalavya Archery Championship-2017 for Chenchus working in the Forest department commenced from Saturday at the Bairluti forest area in Atmakur forest division of Kurnool district. The event was held under the joint aegis of Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve management division and World Wide Fund for Nature, Hyderabad.

Atmakur Divisional Forest Officer Selvam and WWF Hyderabad representative Farida inaugurated the championship. In all, 150 Chenchu youth working as protection watchers and tiger trackers in Kurnool, Prakasam, Atmakur and Markapuram forest divisions took part in the competitions. On the first day, over 90 archers competed with one another.

The competitions were conducted to test the archers’ skills in using the traditional bow and arrows. District Archery representative G Suresh officiated as judge for the event. Assistant Conservator of Forests Saibaba and others were present at the
inaugural function.
