Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector Babu A and Mayor Koneru Sridhar flagged off National Immunisation Day (Pulse Polio) awareness rally at Swarajya Maidan here on Saturday. The pulse polio programme will begin on Sunday and it will be continued up to February 1 in Krishna district and Vijayawada city.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that 3.77 lakh children were identified below five years age in the district as per 2011 census. The district administration has set up 2,560 pulse polio centres, he said. The programme will start from 7 am and end at 6 pm and staff will provide door-to-door service on January 30 and 31, he added.

Mayor Koneru Sridhar said that arrangements have been made for pulse polio programme. Krishna district nodal officer Dr Nagamalleswari, district medical and health officer (DM&HO) Dr Y Kameswara Prasad, Deputy DM&HO Dr Shobha and others were present.
