Anantapur: Joint Collector B Lakshmikantham has called upon parents and all concerned with the destiny of children to make it a point to administer pulse polio drops on January 28 at all the polio booths in railway stations, bus stands and complexes, educational institutions, Anganwadi centres and at all public places, where polio booths will be opened.

Flagging off a polio awareness rally at the Arts College Grounds here on Saturday, Lakshmikantham said that parents should get polio drops administered to children below 5 years from preventing physical disabilities caused by poliomyelitis. Negligence, he said would cost a child's abilities for life. He said that due to the intensive campaign unleashed worldwide by nations poliomyelitis is almost is eradicated. However, in India, government is aggressively continuing the campaign on humanitarian grounds to fight poliomyelitis tooth and nail.

He said there are 4.5 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years but 4.9 lakh polio doses have been supplied to ensure that all the targeted children are administered polio drops. He said that on January 29 and 30, door-to-door campaign will be undertaken to make sure that none is left out by omission or by an accident. Hundreds of school children have participated in the awareness rally.
