Anantapur: District Collector Kona Sasidhar has called upon all concerned to strive hard for a society sans Poliomyelitis. He said that in AP State the last case detected was in 2008 and in 2011 another case was found in West Bengal and after that no cases were detected in India. The Collector administered polio drops to children at the local Nehru Nagar municipal school on Sunday morning.

He said that recently a few polio cases were detected in the neighbouring countries and after that the World Health Organisation stepped up campaign against Poliomyelitis. “Our government has launched an aggressive campaign to ensure that not a single child is left out in the immunisation drive,” the Collector said. He said that 4.5 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years have been administered polio drops on Sunday. He said that on Monday and Tuesday, there would be a door-to-door campaign.

Local MLA V Prabhakar Chowdary said that the government being a welfare government is bent upon preventing disabilities in children due to Poliomyelitis. He added that the door-to-door campaign in the next couple of days will ensure that not a single child is left out. ZP chairman Chaman Saheb called upon the people to be available in their homes on Monday and Tuesday if their child had missed out on the polio drops.
