Kakinada: District Collector H Arun Kumar said that a special drive had been taken up to eradicate polio from the district. Participating in the 67th pulse polio immunization programme held at Yallavarigaruvu in the city suburbs on Sunday, the collector said that slum, fishermen and migrant labor areas have been targeted for this specific purpose.
As part of this special drive, a door-to-door campaign covering fishing habitations would be taken up on 30th and 31th of this month. Also, houses that went uncovered on the first day of polio campaign would be a part of this drive.
The Collector said that not a single case of polio was found in the year 2008. Also, there has been no detection of polio cases, said the Collector.
Speaking on the occasion, Kakinada MLA V Venkateswara Rao listed out various measures in the last 22 years leading to zero polio cases in the district.
