Karapa (East Godavari): Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa reiterated that the TDP government has given top priority for irrigation projects and for its effective implementation, it has decided to pump in Rs 20,000 crore at State-level.

Addressing a gathering of farmers at Vemulawada in Karapa mandal of East Godavari after laying a stone for three lift irrigation projects. Out of the three, two are on Veumulawada drain taken up with a cost of Rs 2.34 crore and the third one at Peddapurappadu taken up with a cost of Rs6.52 crore. These three will cater to the needs of more than 4,000 acres in the area, he said.

The Deputy CM also said that these thee lift irrigation projects will resolve long-pending irrigation water needs of tail end lands in the mandal. He also praised the efforts of Kakinada Rural MLA, P Anantalakshmi in getting clearance for these three lift Irrigation projects in time.

The Minister said that these there lift irrigation schemes will be of immense use to the farmers in those areas even if there is short fall in water levels in Godavari river. If required, irrigation authorities will take up cross bund storage mode to cater to the irrigation water needs, the Minister added.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA, Aantalakshmi thanked Water Resources Development Minister Devineni Umamaheswar Rao for clearing the projects within time. Local TDP leaders G Srinivasa Rao, K Simhadri, mandal tahsildar B Sridevi and others attended it.
