CM directs officials to utilise RWS funds to build toilets in all districts
Amaravati: The State government will get Rs 2,500 crore from the Centre under the Rural Water Scheme (RWS). Disclosing this while participating in teleconference with officials here on Monday, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials to prepare plans to construct toilets with these funds.
The State should meet the target of becoming open-defecation free by 2019, he said. Stating that the government would also announce the names of villages which achieve good progress by implementing the infrastructure parameters, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to utilise the funds for LED lighting and wastage treatment plants.
Naidu said the Centre had allotted 20,000 houses for the State and officials should speed up the housing scheme.
On the Vizag CII Summit, he said the government machinery should strive to protect the image of State as both people and investors believed in its commitment to achieve progress and development as evident by the number of MoUs signed during the summit which promise to bring investments worth of Rs 10.54 lakh crore to the State.
He said that nearly Rs 2.6 lakh crore worth investments projects had been grounded thus far for which agreements were signed during the last summit.
Reviewing the Neeru-Pragathi works, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prevent drinking water problems by using the funds exclusively allocated for the purpose. “Funds to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore are available for drinking water scheme. For next year, prepare plans for Rs 7,000 crore,” he said.
The officials were told to prepare district-wise irrigation plan for all the districts with the involvement of associations and people from various walks of life.
