​Vijayawada: Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana on Wednesday inspected development works taken up by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and suggested for the speedy completion of the works.

The Minister, along with MLAs and officials, visited Darsi Pet, Ramalingeswara Nagar, Y V Rao Hospital road where proposals have been made for the construction of bridges. The Minister also inspected the high tension road near Mahanadu road, Pinnmaneni polyclinic road, Guntutippa drain at Auto Nagar, Vambay Colony.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is planning to construct three bridges on Bandar canal to ease the traffic problem that will surface in future. MLA Gadde Rammohana Rao, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian explained the traffic problems in these junctions to the Minister during his whirlwind.

He inspected the drains and road at Pinnamaneni polyclinic road where storm water drain has been planned. During the rainy season, storm water is stagnating on the Pinnamaneni polyclinic road disrupting the traffic. Now, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has decided to develop the drainage system for free flow of storm and drain water on Pinnamaneni proad. Later, Narayana inspected the 3.2 km long Guntutippa drain at Auto Nagar. Autonagar has been facing many problems due to narrow drain that should be widened. The Minister said the drain should be modernised for free flow of water.

Later, he visited Vambay Colony and inspected the possibility of constructing either flyover bridge or rail under bridge connecting Vambay Colony to Madhura Nagar and G+4 houses under construction. The VMC is already taken up storm water drain works at Vambay Colony. Municipal Commissioner Veerapandian explained the details of Vambay Colony, population, storm water management system being developed.

Later, talking to newsmen Minister Narayana said the State government is giving top priority for Swachh Bharat and trying to make all municipalities free from open defecation by 2019. He further said STP being constructed at Jakkampudi will be completed by March 2017 and the construction works of the STP at Auto Nagar already completed. He said total drain water in Vijayawada will be sent to STPs in future with completion of Jakkampudi sewage treatment plant. Chief engineer R Ankaiah, superintending engineers P Adiseshu and J V Ramakrishna and others accompanied the Minister during his visit.
