Atmakur (Kurnool): An unauthorised priest, Chakrapani, hand-in-glove with temple staff allegedly collected Rs 2,000 from each devotee towards initiating children into education at the temple of Goddess Saraswati in Atmakur on Wednesday which is Magha Suddha Panchami.

Magha Suddha Panchami according to Telugu calendar is celebrated as Goddess Saraswati Jayanthi. According to sources, the temple Executive Officer hadn’t provided even basic amenities to the devotees. No action had been taken although the plight was taken to the notice of the Assistant Commissioner of Endowments and Revenue Divisional Officer Satyanarayana.

Many devotees turned back without getting their children into initiation as they couldn’t bear expenses. Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Officer of Srisailam temple accompanied by Vedic scholars and temple main priest Mallikarjunaiah presented silk clothes to the deity.
