The Chief Minister on Wednesday afternoon held a review meeting on the progress of Polavaram project and Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme (PPLIS) with Irrigation, Revenue officials at the project camp office near Ramayyapeta village of Polavaram mandal.

Speaking at the review meeting, the Chief Minister said that so far Rs 10,000 crores have been spent on Polavaram project. He made it clear that no work should be delayed due to designs and the contracting agencies should meet the targets within the stipulated time.

He warned that if the works were not completed as per the deadlines, action would be initiated against the contractors and directed officials to submit proposals of coffer dam design within one week.

Naidu also directed the contracting agencies to complete the spillway channel construction works by February 15 and asked the Triveni Construction Company to use more machinery for the works. He asked the concerned contractors to start the powerhouse construction works by May this year and also directed completion of powerhouse approach channel and pilot channel works in time.

The Chief Minister assured that the government would support the displaced people of the Polavaram project and housing colonies with all facilities would be constructed for them. He directed officials to prepare proposals for the construction of 5,000 houses in each colony with all facilities at the suitable place with the consent of 22,000 displaced people.

He asked the Revenue officials to complete the land acquisition as far as Polavaram project is concerned. While reviewing the Purushottapatnam lift irrigation scheme, the Chief Minister directed officials to complete the scheme taken up at a cost of Rs 1,638 crore by June at any cost.

In the first phase of the scheme, it was proposed to lift about 3,500 cusecs of water from Godavari and in the second phase, the water will be diverted to Yeleru reservoir in East Godavari district, he said.

With this diversion scheme, about 2.15 lakh acres would get water by June this year and officials should work accordingly, he added. He warned the Purushottapatnam project contractor Subaiah and Irrigation superintending engineers would be held accountable for any delay.
