Rajamahendravaram: The State government is weakening the public sector and strengthening private sector, alleged CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna.

He demanded that reservations should be provided to SCs, STs and BCs in the private sector. Ramakrishna addressed a public meeting as part of the Praja Chaitanya Yatra (Bus Yatra) in Rajamahendravaram on Wednesday. The Bus Yatra began at Ichchapuram on January 26 and will conclude at Hindupur on March 6.

Speaking on the occasion, the CPI leader lamented that the State government has put medical and educational sectors in the hands of corporates and demanded regulations on fee structure in corporate sector.

He further demanded that Amaravati should be declared as a free zone so that people from all the 13 districts flourish in the capital. He expressed anguish over the State government neglecting the SCs, STs, BCs and minorities.

He alleged that the Centre has cheated people of the State by not fulfilling the aspects included in the AP Reorganisation Act and recalled that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Special Status to AP for five years. Ramakrishna pointed out that the NDA government failed to provide legal sanctity to the special package announced for the State.

Recalling Union Ministers comments that they view AP as a special State, the CPI leader wondered why no special schemes were announced for the State in the Union Budget 2017-18.

He demanded implementation of all the assurances included in the Reorganisation Act.

Recalling that both the BJP and TDP had batted for Special Category Status when they were in opposition, he ridiculed the stance of both the parties after coming into power.

He observed that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had no guts to talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Special Category Status.

CPI district secretary T Madhu, town secretary Nalla Rama Rao and member, AP Bar Council, Muppalla Subba Rao also spoke.
