Chittoor: Defying the government order, several doctors working at government hospitals are continuing private practice in the city. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said no government doctor should run a private hospital.

However, government doctors can run clinics at the prescribed timings only. By floating norms, government doctors are running private hospitals.

A lady doctor working at Government General Hospital (GGH) here is running a ten-bedded private hospital at Kongareddipalli. She is a leading gynaecologist and children specialist in the city.

There are allegations that a few doctors working at GGH are suggesting patients to visit their private hospitals.

Asked to comment over government doctors indulging in private practice, GGH Superintendent Dr Panduranga Rao told The Hans India on Thursday that he don’t know about government doctors are running private hospitals.

He assured of looking into the matter and take necessary action if they found violating rules. As per rules, doctors working at government hospitals should work from 9 am to 4 pm every day.

It is learnt that government doctors are collecting hefty consultation fees besides running their own medical shops.
