Dr Kodela was here on Friday to flag off 2K Run ahead of the National Women’s Parliament.
He told reporters at the AU Senate Hall that nearly 17,000 young students, public representatives including MPTC, ZPTC members, ZP Chairpersons and professionals like lawyers, doctors, woman employees, officials, leaders of DWCRA groups and women who excelled in different professions will participate. Stating that women constitute 50 per cent of the total population, the Speaker felt that every woman too should work along with her husband to lead a happy life and at the same time, they were facing many problems in the male-dominated society.
He emphasised the need for women folk to overcome all these social evils by equipping themselves with self-confidence, courage and leadership skills.
About steps taken by the government for the empowerment of women, Dr Kodela informed that it not only set up Mahila Universities, it conducted programmes on literacy awareness and increased the membership of DWCRA groups to 55 lakh compared to 75,000 in the united AP.
To continue all these women empowerment programmes in future, the National Women’s Parliament is being organised, the Speaker added.
